Lets Make A List: Deaths in Movies
Hollywood has picked up on the drama of death. In fact, it seems that roughly 50% of Hollywood’s dramas portray some type of death (think how much happier we’d be if 50% of movies showed births and little babies smiling).
And there’s SO MANY different types of deaths portrayed in the movies.
There’s predictable death’s (think Jesus in Mel Gibson’s “Passion”) and there’s deaths that slap you in the face (think Bambi’s mother).
There’s the violent deaths (the head shots), the slow arduous deaths (Leo in Titanic).
There’s the animal deaths (did anyone else hate it when Kevin Costner’s horse was shot in “Dances with Wolves”?).
There’s the epic deaths you were hoping would happen (the Emperor in “Star Wars”).
And then there’s the fact that some actors die in ever freakin movie they’ve ever been in (think Sean Bean [here's a link to all of his 21 deaths ... and it's epic ... and you should ONLY watch if after reading my post]).
There’s the knock the wind out of your sails, depress you for a week deaths.
Speaking of the make-you-cry deaths, I remember back in middle school when a buddy and I watched “My Girl”.
My buddy was a tough kid. Didn’t cry when he got hurt. And when the time came in the movie when most normal people cried, he held back the tears. Unfortunately, holding back his emotions didn’t work out for him because about a minute later he ran to the bathroom and vomited.
There’s the sacrificial deaths.
There’s the deaths-that-made-me-cry.
The deaths to save the world (Bruce Willis in just about every movie he’s in, but especially “Armageddon”).
And there’s the deaths that took away our death virginity … that death that was so real that it changed our lives forever (for me, it was Optimus Prime in the original “Transformers” cartoon movie).
So, let’s make a list of movie deaths.
And if somebody else has already commented a movie death that you wanted to write … just “like” their movie death so that we know which ones are the most popular.
