It will take a while, but hopefully people will start to get in tune with their own bodies and their energy. Energy has more than we know to do with everything about it. The physical closeness in grief, whether it be a hug or shoulder squeeze, is so comforting to a person. It lets them know you are there for them and thinking of them. It is a shame that all touching is seen as taboo and is sexualized; it can be beneficial in other areas as you mentioned and not be touching out of desire or demand. Although, I believe touching is perceived differently based on your geographical location as well. I really like this post and I completely agree as well. In my life, this has only been an issue in a work environment. Something tells me that might have something to do with being southern. I've noticed a marked difference in the people I know from different parts of the country - southern folks will touch you and hug you, stranger or no.
